About the Author
Alan A. Wanderer, M.D. is a graduate of Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. His medical training included an internal medicine internship at Bellevue Hospital-Columbia Internal Medical Division, pediatric residency at Cornell Medical School and fellowship in allergy, asthma, and clinical immunology at National Jewish Center, Denver, Colorado. He is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and is an active member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He taught on the faculty of National Jewish Center and is currently a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Allergy at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Wanderer has authored over fifty articles on allergy-clinical immunology subjects, particularly on the subject of urticaria (hives) including chapters in medical textbooks. He is an active lecturer on a variety of allergy/immunology related subjects at medical meetings and university medical schools. Much of his research has concentrated on the mechanisms and therapy of a reproducible type of hives induced by cold, namely acquired cold urticaria. His collaboration with Dr. Hal Hoffman has led to the identification of the gene that is responsible for an inherited cold sensitivity disorder called familial cold auto-inflammatory syndrome. On-going research indicates that the identified gene is involved in important innate immune responses. He was lead author of recently published practice parameter guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of urticaria and angioedema that was sponsored by the Joint Task Force of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. His expertise in these medical conditions is recognized nationally and internationally.
Dr. Wanderer is associated with “Allergy & Asthma Consultants of Montana, LLC” located in Bozeman, MT. He is available to evaluate hives, nasal-sinus symptoms, asthma, food reactions, bee sting sensitivity and drug reactions. Consultation appointments can be scheduled at 1-406-582-1111.
